February 9, 2019 Theme:

AMOR POR EL BARRIO/LOVE FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Acción Latina & Calle 24 Cultural Arts District organizations are excited to announce the festivities lineup for a new installment of Paseo Artistico, the Mission's Free Art community stroll which will take place on Saturday February 9, 2019 from 11AM-7PM.

The first Paseo Artistico of 2019 will celebrate “Amor Por el Barrio/Love for the Neighborhood.” Neighborhood based artists and 24th Street venues will demonstrate strong communal and artistic representations of the love and appreciation for our neighborhood, despite the recent painful losses of two legacy businesses including La Victoria Mexican Bakery and Galeria De La Raza. This month’s Paseo will feature artists who produce work that speaks to the vibrant cultural life and artistic legacy of the Mission District, as well as artists whose work is strongly influenced by the murals, music and passionate poetry and dance in Mission. This month’s artists including Mexican-American musical prodigy “La Doña” Cecilia Peña-Govea and Peruvian percussionist Pedro Rosales will highlight the lasting influences the neighborhood’s tradition of Latino music of Malo and Bobbi Cespedes. Featured visual artists like Calixto Robles and Dulce Maria Lopez Gonzalez honor painters like Carmen Lomas Garza, and the screen prints of Michael Román and Juan Fuentes. For our Word Jazz event at Mission Cultural Center Jazz fusion musical group Mino Yanci will perform with poets including Leticia Hernandez, Josiah Luis Alderete, and SF poetry legends including San Francisco Poet Laureate Kim Shuck as well as Afro-Boricua poet Avoctjca. Activities include screen printing workshops, live music, spoken word poetry and jazz music, water color and drawing classes that all demonstrate amor por el barrio.

All activities FREE and for All Ages.
